The focus of the group will be to support those using MapInfo and Discover products.  The Users Group will provide opportunities for members to get together to network, exchange ideas, learn technical tips, share knowledge about applications, data, and services, etc.

Users Group

The success of the Users Group is  based on everyone’s involvement. Please register now or update your email address here so you can receive meeting notices, newsletters, and participate in the user forums.

PolyBuilder

The Discover PolyBuilder utility is designed to simplify the conversion of digitized linework  into polygon vector objects. A common use is the digitization of lithological units or land use areas from a scanned and georeferenced image as series of lines or polylines.

Boundary Digitizing

Once drillhole sections are created, geological or ore boundaries can be interpreted visually. Section boundaries can be viewed in external 3D visualisation packages or used to generate solids for volume calculations.

Drillholes in 3D

Discover 3D allows drillholes and their associated downhole datasets to be quickly and easily displayed, allowing you to view your drilling in ‘real-space’.

Multi Section Creator

Multiple geological or geophysical cross-sectional profiles can be easily georeferenced and displayed in 3D as an EGB file using the Multi Section Creator.

This was posted on the MapInfo-L group and might be of interest to GPS users

Hi,

I'm Sam Knight, the Product Manager at Blue Marble Geographics.  First, to answer the old question, no older versions of Tracker have been able to upload or download stored data between GPS units, it was for live data streaming only or playback of logged NMEA data streams.  The good news: I can confirm that the 4.0 version of Geographic Tracker shipping with MapInfo Pro v10.5 does indeed support direct download and upload to Garmin units (including the units that we haven't been able to support in the past).  Data can either be merged into existing tables, used to create new tables in MapInfo, or written out to file directly.

We geologists always seem to have a project that uses parts of two or even four quadrangles. Wouldn’t be great to make your own quadrangle, well you can! The USGS has a free service that allows seamless data to be downloaded for any chosen area. This includes Landsat images, orthophotos, DEMs, etc. Of course the USGS data is tailored for ArcGis formats, but we MapInfo people can get the data with just a little more effort. This article will illustrate how to download DEM data and then create contours in feet using Discover. It is relatively easy process once you get it figured out!

Newsflash

There is a free MapInfo Proviewer available which can be downloaded from - www.mapinfo.com/proviewer

Note this will not open surface grid files created / opened with Discover; these will first need to be
converted into the MIG format using Discover's Surfaces>Grid Utilities>Convert menu option.
